I was a little leery – oatmeal that you prepare with cold water? But, I went with it and discovered that cold oatmeal is amazing in summer and so, so easy when you have a cup from Vigilant Eats.
Like a cross between muesli and instant oatmeal, Vigilant Eats seems to have hit the mark for raw food ease and comfort appeal. Plus, these are wholesome full morning meals, clocking in at 280 to 360 calories and packing in 7 to 11 grams of protein and around 8 grams of fiber per convenient cup! Plus, the milky base (made from hemp powder) is nut-free and soy-free, for a unique flavor and nutrition experience.
Just add cold water…
Tasting Notes for Vigilant Eats Organic Superfood Cereal Cups
Vigilant Eats focuses on quality above all. They have gone for the gold with organic certified, gluten-free certified, non-GMO verified, vegan certified and kosher pareve. They’ve also chosen ingredients that are beyond wholesome and meet with so many dietary needs. From raw superfoods to free of the top eight allergens.
On our last update, in 2020, Vigilant Eats Cereal Cups came in TEN flavors! I’ve included tasting notes below on the four that we tried, along with photos of their current packaging (it’s only changed a little).
Goji-Cacao
I reached first for the flavor that was lowest in sugar (6g) and was pleasantly surprised. Though I’m not typically a chocolate cereal fan, the crunchy cacao nibs paired perfectly with the chewy goji berries and the hearty oat back-drop. I loved how it filled me up yet energized. I didn’t feel the least bit weighed down, which happens often when I have oatmeal in the a.m. My taste buds found the Goji-Cacao to be perfectly sweet, so I was a little nervous about ratcheting up the sugar ladder with the other flavors to come.
Coconut Maple Vanilla
Highest in sugars (21g) of the four selections, yet most enticing by name. I was hesitant yet intrigued to sample this flavor next. It was very tasty indeed, but way too sweet for me in the morning. I did enjoy the big flakes of coconut and sizable date pieces, but felt that they could have cut the added sweeteners in half (they use coconut sugar and maple powder). I would have been fine without the maple, too, which seemed to add fall notes to this surprisingly “bright” combo.
Espresso Maca Mulberry
Since I’m not a coffee fan, I decided to share this breakfast delight with Tony. However, I did sneak a single bite to sample for my own reference. This variety has a very, very rich espresso flavor with a touch of sweetness (12 grams of sugars in total) and lots of healthy chunks throughout. It was definitely too “coffee” for me, but Tony seemed to like it. He said, “It’s weird that you used cold water. Good, but different.”
Maca Double Chocolate
This one surprised with a mellow milky chocolate flavor. It did in fact turn the hemp milk base into chocolate “milk”. The generously scattered cacao nibs added some grown-up goodness. I liked the date bits throughout for added sweetness (15g of sugars in this one) and enjoyed it overall! It was a little intense and sweet for me in the morning though.

You mentioned they are nut free products yet in your review of the Coconut Maple Vanilla you say sliced almonds? Can you clarify? Thanks!
Hi Danielle, sorry for the error. They are nut-free, and it has been fixed in the review. I was referring to the other ingredients – no idea why I wrote almonds!
