Abe’s Vegan Pound Cakes are Available in Eight Allergy-Friendly Varieties

    1
By Alisa Fleming on July 29, 2018 Dairy-Free Cake & Pie Reviews, Product Reviews

If you haven’t tried Abe’s yet, then you are definitely missing out. They make tons of fabulous vegan mini muffins, and now they have Abe’s Vegan Pound Cakes! All of Abe’s products are dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free, and considered school safe, but trust me, no one will taste the difference. I shared these pound cakes with people in my building and someone suggested to my husband that I open a bakery. Apparently they didn’t notice the Abe’s label that I stuck right on the platter.

Tasting Notes for Abe’s Vegan Pound Cakes

These sweet desserts initially launched in four varieties, which we had the opportunity to sample. They’ve since doubled their vegan pound cake inventory to EIGHT flavors. I’ve included notes for the ones we have tried, but basic information for all of them.

Please note that the nutrition facts for all Abe’s Vegan Pound Cakes are similar, but the newer flavors are based on just 5 slices per loaf, while the original flavors are based on 7 slices per loaf.

    Original Vanilla

Naturally, I started with the Original for a baseline comparison. It was sweet and moist with perky vanilla undertones and just enough richness. The taste and density were pretty spot, but it was a touch more delicate than traditional pound cake.

Pictured: Original VanillaIngredients: non-gmo sugar, non-gmo unenriched flour, non-gmo organic rice milk (filtered water, brown rice [partially milled], expeller pressed canola oil and/or safflower oil and/or sunflower oil, tricalcium phosphate, sea salt, vitamin a palmitate, vitamin d2, vitamin b12), non-gmo canola oil, water, salt, non-gmo baking powder (monocalcium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate [baking soda], non-gmo corn starch), baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), vanilla. Contains wheat.

    Nutrition (per 1/7th cake): 210 calories, 10g fat, 31g carbs, 0g fiber, 18g sugars, 2g protein.*

    Ultimate Lemon

This is the Original with natural lemon flavor added, and it is equally delicious. The lemon permeates for a lightly zesty flavor that’s perfect with tea. This cake also seemed to have a slightly sugary crust on top, which was mighty tasty.

Contains wheat.

    Ginger Spice

This holiday-inspired flavor was a little less moist than the others and more “gingerbread” like than cake. But the flavor was wonderfully warm and perfectly spiced.

Pictured: Ginger SpiceIngredients: non-gmo sugar, non-gmo unenriched flour, organic rice milk (filtered water, brown rice [partially milled], expeller pressed canola oil and/or safflower oil and/or sunflower oil, tricalcium phosphate, sea salt, vitamin a palmitate, vitamin d2, vitamin b12), water, non-gmo canola oil, salt, non-gmo baking powder (monocalcium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate [baking soda], non-gmo corn starch), baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clove, ginger. Contains wheat.

    Nutrition (per 1/7th cake): 210 calories, 10g fat, 31g carbs, <1g fiber, 18g sugars, 2g protein.*

    Coffee Cake

This tasted just like the Original pound cake, but with warm cinnamon notes and big chunky crumbs. The topping was very crumbly, and had a sweet pastry bite rather than a sugary finish. It’s a dessert that I think kids will love, but it also has grown-up appeal and is perfect with tea or coffee.

This ginger spice cake is delicious! I enjoyed it with a cup of pumpkin spice coffee. Moist and tender with just enough ginger flavor. No one would ever guess this was vegan.

Just what the doctor ordered: OUT OF THIS WORLD ! ! !

I am a senior with a genetic condition called familial hypercholesterolemia, wherein the liver produces excess cholesterol EVEN IF you do not eat anything with cholesterol in it. My mother, may she rest in peace, had a cholesterol reading of 600, OFF THE CHARTS. My cardiologist said that if I and my siblings inherited the condition from both of my parents, we all would have likely died of heart disease or stroke in our twenties. Mercifully, my cholesterol is now under control with meds and sensible eating. I am

95% vegan and recently discovered Abe’s loaf cakes: JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED.

OUT OF THIS WORLD! I would imagine that if you asked a hundred individuals to sample Abe’s loaf cakes, they would NEVER guess that they are vegan, with zero eggs or dairy or cholesterol. Some, perhaps many, vegan products taste dry and NOT THE REAL THING, but Abe’s are truly SCRUMPTIOUS and MOIST and perfect consistence, flavor, and not too sweet or too bland. I have tried nearly ALL of the varieties of loaf cakes and ALL are DELICIOUS down to the last crumb. So, if you haven’t already done so, please try these products. Be prepared to be transported to baking heaven.

I picked up a loaf of Abe’s coffee cake at Whole Foods, and the next week I picked up another one! My uncle was a chef and made a great buttery pound cake, and I thought that was the best, so Ive been trying to find something as good for many years!! This is even better. I am so grateful to Abe, whoever and wherever he is, for bringing back that great nostalgic taste!! Disregard the humble packaging, and pick some up some Abe’s! A+!

    The Best!!

    Rated 5 out of 5
    June 28, 2019

We have been getting Abe’s for awhile. It’s our favorite vegan baked goods company. We started with the chocolate chip muffins (5 stars too) and the coffee cake is my personal favorite. I can’t tell is vegan. It has a great texture, lots of flavor and rivals any other coffee cake/ muffins out there. It is perfect since I’m dairy free and my daughter has a dairy allergy. Highly recommend.
