In case you haven’t noticed, fermentation is trending. Some of it is problematic for dairy-free consumers. But many innovators are using it to develop umami flavors in products made specifically for us, like Nature’s Fynd Dairy-Free Cream Cheese. Nature’s Fynd uses fermentation to grow their trademark product Fy, which is a fungi protein that contains all 9 essential amino acids. It’s the base for these allergy-friendly alternatives.

I came here to confirm what I thought...
I bought this after tasting it in the store…and honestly, the first bite was okay, but after a second, there was a terrible aftertaste. Um, not sure what happened, but I threw it out.
It really is awful, trust the reviews
I wanted to like this so bad. It was on sale at my local Sprouts so I wanted to give it a try! I’m used to eating other non-dairy cream cheese products so I expected this to be no different. Holy cow was I mistaken! I almost threw up after swallowing the first bite. The aftertaste is sooooo bad. I’m not picky with food at all and I could not handle the flavor of this. It’s god awful. Please trust the other reviews and protect yourself from this monstrosity. I never leave reviews but after what I experienced, I felt it was my responsibility to save others from buying/eating this product.
Has a distinct aftertaste of bile
First of all, I love vegan foods. I eat tons of dairy-free “‘milk” products and meat-free “meat” products. The initial smell and appearance of this was great, and I was excited to try it. As soon as I swallowed the first bite, I thought “wait…what? No, no way…” and took another bite thinking I was mistaken. I was not mistaken. The aftertaste of this vegan cream cheese has the absolutely unmistakable foul and slightly sweet taste that bile does. I’m aghast that anyone enjoys this at all. Please do not make the mistake I did of buying this.
Terrible
Nature’s Fynd cream cheese has a terrible aftertaste. Definitely a one and done!!! I can’t even eat what was purchased… it’s that bad!
I want to support Fynd, but the taste is horrendous.
I bought the Fynd plain cream cheese at Sprouts. The smell and texture are actually decent, but the taste is horrendous. There is a strong fungal/bitter aftertaste. It tastes very unnatural. I don’t know who the taste testers are at Fynd but I would strongly recommend inviting some public taste testers or a blind test. If you had me taste it I would have given my honest feedback. There is NO way this should have passed the first taste tests. I really wanted to like Fynd but I will not buy another Fynd product if they have this flavor.
Added sugar
The added sugar component, is disappointing. Besides the fact that sugar is toxic, sweet cream cheese is unexpected.
It tasted fine for a second, but then took a turn for the worst
Fynd needs to rework their formula or maybe it’s like how people are genetically super sensitive to the flavor of cilantro, the other 1-star reviews are sensitive to their mushroom extract flavor. Either way, this was one of the worst and weirdest flavors I’ve ever had in a cream cheese. I think Nature Fynd’s breakfast sausage patties are great by the way, I recommend them! So learning that they made a cream cheese I was hopeful. But wow, that mushroom flavor must be at odds with me or something. I love mushrooms too! But this flavor, god it tasted like what you imagine fungus to taste like. It tasted like body odor. The first second I tasted it, it was nice. The texture was great, light acidity from the lactic acid, a nice creaminess, but then you get that mushroom flavor and it just sticks to the back of your throat. It’s just horrible. It’s a musty flavor in the worst way possible. And it’s not even the dominant flavor, it comes through more in the aftertaste, so it just ruins the whole initial experience. Freshly opened package and no sign of any spoilage, smelled fine. If that flavor was gone, this could be a great vegan cream cheese, but it’s tastes horrible to me. And it’s an interesting split in the reviews here lol. Very polarizing haha, you either like it or it’s the worst tasting thing ever.
I never write online reviews, but for this one I googled if anyone else thought this was a weird cream cheese and found this website and am glad that some of the reviews also agreed, I thought my taste buds were broken and it was just me.
Legit
I’m still uncertain about “Fy” itself and want to do more research but based on taste alone, I give this 5 starts. The texture is workable, but to be expected. I have tasted almost all vegan/dairy free, many with poor ingredients or seed oils. SO unless I find out something alarming about “Fy”, I’m going to keep purchasing.
Tastes like Dairy Cream Cheese
I tasted the original version of this cream cheese for the first time today on a bagel . To me it tastes just like Philadelphia brand cream cheese . I found the texture as well as the taste to be excellent . There was not an after taste like other non dairy alternatives . I was very pleased with the quality of the product and would buy it again
This is very good for kids with dietary restrictions!!
My son is dealing with food allergies that have made it harder then it already is to keep a 4 year old well fed! This is very close to the spreadable Philadelphia cream cheese, but I do prefer the chives flavor for my son and I. He likes to use it as a dip with his Annies crackers which makes this mama very happy.
