Tofutti Frozen Dessert Pints: The Original Dairy-Free Ice Cream

Better than coconut milk-based ice cream? My former cheese- and cream-loving husband thinks so. He recently fell in love with this Tofutti Premium Frozen Dessert.

It doesn’t happen too often these days, but we were craving ice cream, dairy-free of course. My husband and I walked to the store and the only dairy-free / vegan options available were a $6 per pint coconut milk-based ice cream and pints of Tofutti on sale for $2.50. As virtuous as we like to be, this was not a price discrepancy we could swallow, so for the first time ever, Tofutti went into our shopping basket.

Truthfully, our cheapness was getting the best of us as neither of us expected to like that pint of simple vanilla soy ice cream.

But it was love at first taste… For both of us. After reading the ingredients, we really wanted to hate it. It is far from a health food. But alas, we couldn’t get enough of it. An addiction was born. In fact, this was the first brand of dairy-free ice cream that my husband has truly enjoyed and wanted a repeat of.

In the next two weeks we returned to our local market three more times to get another vanilla pint. And another. And another.

The vanilla Tofutti frozen dessert is amazingly creamy, perfectly sweet, and somehow just hits that “mmm” spot. Though I wouldn’t call it an identical swap for ice cream by any means, it has its own charms and still fulfills those cool and creamy cravings. It was delicious atop apple crisp, with brownies, and simply drizzled with homemade chocolate magical shell. Yes, we each have a major sweet tooth.

Tofutti has now expanded their line up to include some seriously decadent tofu frozen desserts. While we loved the simple vanilla, we’re looking forward to giving others a try!

I love this ice cream, but I can’t find it anywhere anymore.

Response from Go Dairy Free

That’s so frustrating! I checked with the company, and it is still out there. It tends to be sold more at natural food stores now (including independents). They have a store locator on their website.

  1. To my surprise, the only non dairy “dessert” at Winn Dixie while passing by a red neck county. Wanted some treat for the road and paid full price. I used to spend 8 dollar fast food lunch, not anymore. So 6 dollars for a pint of healthy non garbage delight is a no brainer.

Took a spoonful, taste buds kick in and I had to scan each and every corner of the packaging for milk or lactose ingredients. I could not believe this ice cream was 100% vegan. The flavor, texture is there.

Would have liked another flavor, but only one available was Vanilla.

I would buy this ice cream again and do recommend it.

  2. Tofutti vanilla ice cream is, by far, the best I’ve tasted. It’s my go to if we are in need of ice cream.

  3. I have tried this and it is quite good. It is so good in fact tat aanyone who I have served it to has had n idea that they werent eating regular ice cream!

  4. I would like to get tofutti’s address & tel NO. so I can get local grocery store to order their products

  5. I want to buy almond bark tofutti online. Please tell me where to go. Almond bark is not in any store near me. Other flavors are, but not almond bark C. teas 1 978-2977229

    • I couldn’t tell you Courtney – I just reviewed the product, but we have no affiliation with the company. The link to their website is in the post. Tofutti should be able to help you directly.
