Recipe creators have been whipping up homemade vegan “goat cheese” for over a decade. We even have our own favorite recipe. But it’s only been a couple of years since the first goat cheese alternative hit major stores. Those initial efforts came on quite strong, but Treeline Dairy-Free Goat Cheese rolled out more recently with a mellower take. Their base is more akin to thick, rich cream cheese with just a bit of pungency and tang in the taste.
Treeline goes out on a Limb with 3 Dairy-Free Goat Cheese Varieties
This goat cheese alternative is cultured to naturally achieve its bolder flavor, and made simply with cashews – no oil – for a relatively creamy finish. It’s also available in three different varieties to mix and match with crostini, crackers, salads, pizzas, or even bagels.

Lovely spread for crackers or French bread
Treeline dairy-free goat cheese tastes like goat cheese but the texture is like cream cheese. (You will NOT be crumbling this over salads). It’s a savory goat cheese spread. The flavor is slightly sour (you know – like goat cheese!). My favorite is the garlic herb. It’s nicely seasoned and ready to spread on crackers or French bread for a delicious instant snack. The plain is more versatile as you may season it however you like. (Skip the blueberry – goat cheese and blueberry do not go well together). The two savory flavors are definitely worth a try. The smooth thick spreadable texture was just great on French bread and I found myself using it as my go-to French bread topper (instead of dairy free butter). This product has earned a permanent spot in my refrigerator.
This one's a win for me
I tried all three flavors. The blueberry just didn’t do it. The garlic and herb is pretty good. But the plain is my favorite. It’s got a very creamy and very thick but spreadable consistency, and has a stronger flavor than dairy-free cream cheese, but isn’t overwhelming. It’s great on crackers and crostini, and the flavor of the plain works with a lot of toppings. So far I’ve tried it with whole berry jam, honey, and vegetable toppings, like cucumber. Good with a sprinkle of everything seasoning, and probably other seasonings, too.
