It’s been over six years since I first reviewed Wayfare Pudding, and this dessert has gone through some changes.
- First, they ditched the Carob flavor and are focusing on their three most popular flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, and Butterscotch.
- Second, they changed the Wayfare dairy-free base. It used to be made with beans and several grains, but now it’s just organic butter beans and organic oats. Don’t let the beans deter you; this pudding really is a dessert-like treat!
- And third, I think they changed the overall pudding formula, because my tasting notes this time around were quite different from the first round.
- (Fourth, they changed the packaging in 2019. See the product images next to the ingredients for their current look.)
Tasting Notes for WayFare Pudding
Wayfare has nearly perfected the consistency of their pudding. It’s very thick – like stand a small spoon in it thick. But it’s now perfectly creamy with a very smooth mouthfeel and a light richness. It isn’t exactly like that pudding you get from a box, but it is vegan, dairy-free, allergy-friendly, and made with far better ingredients.
Vanilla
I could see the vanilla pairing nicely with crushed cookies or fruit. It has a nice light sweetness and a gentle, but notable, infusion of warm vanilla. I’d call this one pleasant, but feel like it needs some complimentary flavors to help it pop. Tony thought I was being too picky and devoured the rest of the cup.
Ingredients: WayFare Dairy Free Base (water, organic butter beans, organic oats), organic cane sugar, coconut oil, wayfare natural flavors, gum arabic, sea salt, sunflower lecithin, calcium citrate, konjac root powder.

Butterscotch
I really like the warm flavor and smooth texture of this variety. It isn’t as “in your face” butterscotch as I remember from the prior formula. It’s mellower, but just flavorful enough with spot on sweetness.

Chocolate
This is my WOW flavor! I can’t quite tell what it reminds me of – maybe classic chocolate milk? Either way, it’s rich, chocolaty, and indulgent with the perfect balance of flavor and consistency. I sampled all three flavors at once, but kept going back to this one for more! Tony liked all three flavors, but he agreed that this one was the best.

Tastes and feels like dairy pudding
The butterscotch is my favorite, with vanilla a close 2nd. The mouth feel is so amazing for vegan. I wish more stores carried it!
The chocolate surprised me
I’m usually a vanilla girl, but the chocolate won me over. It was rich and perfectly sweet. I wasn’t as big on the other two flavors, but my husband devoured them.
Surprisingly Delicious
I’ve tried all 3 flavors. They simply taste like good pudding, period. They don’t taste like they are pretending to be something they aren’t, which is a refreshing change in this arena of prepared foods. My husband has a dairy allergy and I buy them for him, then one day I tried one for myself and now I get them every week and both of us to enjoy.

This makes me so happy! I love pudding and have been waiting for a good store bought brand. Thanks for the review!
I can’t remember the last time I had store-bought pudding! My local Whole Foods needs to get with the times and start carrying Wayfare products!
Agreed! It’s definitely a special find.
I’ve never heard of these before, but I’m so intrigued that they’re made with beans and oats. The texture looks perfectly creamy and delicious! Excited to get my hands on some of these!
It’s actually very surprising and a great way to sneak in beans and oats on the unsuspecting 🙂
