Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt Alternative Has Extra-Nutty Appeal (DISCONTINUED)

    0
By Alisa Fleming on May 20, 2019 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

Unfortunately, it looks like Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt Alternative has been discontinued. For brands that are currently available, see our Dairy-Free Yogurt Reviews.

Blue Diamond has announced their expansion into the dairy-free yogurt category with a new line of Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt Alternatives. Unlike other brands, they are launching just two baseline flavors: Original and Vanilla. But they’re using these core flavors to make six additional single-serve varieties with toppings. Suzanne Hagener, Director of Brand Marketing for Blue Diamond, thinks their unique strategy will shake things up.

We developed single-serve sidecar cups that pair the deliciously creamy Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt Alternative with the crunchy goodness of Blue Diamond almonds and other toppings to bring innovation to the growing plant-based yogurt space. Dairy-free can be exciting, and that’s exactly what we’ve created here.

Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt Alternative Review and Information - dairy-free yogurts with toppings by Blue Diamond

Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt Alternative Has Extra-Nutty Appeal

All of the new single-serve sidecar cups come with Blue Diamond’s California-grown almonds, and most include other complimentary toppings. But take note that the toppings do eat into the yogurt’s space. Like most single-serve yogurt cups, these are 5.3 ounces, but that includes the toppings. So expect a lesser amount of yogurt than your average dairy-free yogurt cups.

Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt is cultured, like traditional yogurt, with five live and active cultures. They don’t list the specific cultures on each package, but we’ve added them to the ingredients below.

    Original

Available in the larger, 24-ounce tubs, this flavor is reportedly good for dips and cooking, too, so you can expect a less sweet flavor profile.

    Vanilla

Like the Original, this baseline, sweetened flavor is sold in 24-ounce tubs.

    Toasted Almonds

Purists will prefer this this vanilla almondmilk yogurt with a simple topping of toasted almond slices.

    Honey Roasted Almonds & Granola

This flavor isn’t strictly vegan since it contains honey roasted almond slices and granola. The topping is matched with their vanilla almondmilk yogurt.

This is the fruitiest flavor with blueberry flavored almond slices, multi-grain oat clusters, and vanilla almondmilk yogurt alternative.

    Additional Allergen Notes*

Here’s how Almond Breeze addresses the shared equipment with some of their products:

Refrigerated Almond Breeze is certified Kosher OU-D, meaning they are dairy free products made on heated equipment that may also be used for dairy products. Blue Diamond uses stringent equipment cleaning and testing procedures to ensure that products made on dairy equipment are dairy-free. For individuals following orthodox kosher rules, dairy-free products processed on heated equipment also used for dairy may not be eaten together with a meat product. Refrigerated Almond Breeze is safe for individuals with dairy allergies.

Although they do handle almonds, cashews, and coconuts for their products, their facility is peanut-free. And they state that all of their products are gluten-free and egg-free.

The Facts on Almond Breeze Almondmilk Creamer

Price: TBD per 5.3-ounce single-serve and 24-ounce tub

Availability: Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt Alternative is launching in major grocers in the Northeast first. The roll out is in May 2019. If successful, they will more than likely expand distribution across the U.S.

Certifications: Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt Alternative appears to be Non-GMO Verified and Certified Kosher D (for dairy equipment, not ingredients; see our Understanding Kosher Guide).

Dietary Notes: By ingredients, Almond Breeze Almondmilk Yogurt Alternative is dairy-free / non-dairy, egg-free, gluten-free, peanut-free, soy-free, and vegetarian. They are all plant-based, but some of the varieties contain honey, so they aren’t strictly vegan.*

    My taste buds like it!

I definitely have lactose issues. AB yogurt solves that issue. I addition, this is weird perhaps but it actually feels good going down. I am very big on the fruit flavors, all of them, although wild cherry seems to have disappeared. It was really awesome, probably to expensive to produce I’m guessing. The vanilla was good also, but I just go for the fruit. I understand watching sugars and sodium may be high. I’ll take this and watch out elsewhere. I don’t understand the aftertaste some mention, doesn’t leave any aftertaste to me. Taste treat: chill it awhile! However, do not freeze and thaw, seems to break down or change the consistency. Badly. I have not found the coconut yogurts all that good. Individual tastes come in big. Some like, some not. I like it a lot! Disclaimer: I have not tried other almond yogurts that I see online. They are not available in my local markets.

Tried the new blueberry Almond Breeze yogurt. Nope I’ll pass. Like another commenter said it has a funky after taste. Wow and watch out for the salt! I was shocked to read 110mg. I compared sodium content of other non dairy brands and most were 1/2 this number.

I had tried another brand of yogurt alternative not long ago and was very turned off by it.. To the point I was hesitant to try any others..

But… I drink only Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almond Milk..

I decided to take a chance on the Almond Breeze Yogurt alternative and I was pleasantly surprised.. The Vanilla is the flavor I bought and I thought it was very good…

Almond Breeze Plain yogurt... it'll do

    Rated 4 out of 5

My credentials: I am allergic to milk protein, have tried every dairy-free yogurt on the market, and have hated virtually all of them. Whether it’s the texture, the slightly “off” aftertaste, the digestive upset, or the veritable sugar-bomb, there is Always. Something. Wrong.

This yogurt has a luscious texture, like a full-fat yogurt, and has only 1g of sugar (whereas most dairy-free yogurts are as sweet as pudding). The label says it is cultured… but it doesn’t have that tangyness cultured ‘gurt is supposed to have, so I raise one eyebrow with suspicion. Really, the flavor is about what one would imagine a blend of unsweetened almond milk and tapioca starch would have: none. Which is fine if you just need a yogurt-like vessel for a recipe (like thickening a white chili, or making a smoothie or something). But, for snacking purposes, I remedy the blandness with a dollop of low-sugar jam.
