Updated May 2023! Last year, Bel Brands finally released a dairy-free version of their popular cheese snack wheels called Babybel Plant-Based. It rolled out in the U.K. first and then in the U.S. The launch was so successful, that they’ve formulated a second vegan flavor: White Cheddar. Both the classic and white cheddar varieties are wrapped in wax, and have a soft, smooth, and creamy texture to complete the nostalgic experience.
Babybel Plant-Based Mimics their Two Most Popular Varieties
The original Babybel Plant-Based flavor was modeled after their classic Mozzarella-style snack. Now they’re working their way down the line with a copycat of their popular White Cheddar, too. Once you buy and try either variety, be sure to leave your unbiased rating and review below to let us know what you think of this dairy-free version! Just use caution when purchasing as the dairy-free Babybel products look similar to the dairy ones!

Disgusting flavor, cross contamination.
I was soo excited to try these. I developed a dairy allergy about a year ago after a bad bout with COVID and I have been looking for good nondairy cheese alternatives. However, these smelled and tasted just bad, and had a texture similar to kraft American slices but in a THICK wheel. They also caused an allergic reaction for me, in spite of being labelled dairy free.
Response from Go Dairy Free
Allergic reactions should be reported to the company and if needed, the FDA.
Outstanding flavored “cheese”
I absolutely LOVE this cheese snack! I happened upon it at the grocery store in the vegan food part of the store and decided to try it since I no longer eat dairy and used to love the regular Babybel snack cheese. It is so creamy and delicious tasting. I eat another non-dairy brand of grated cheese on my salads and sliced cheese on burgers & sandwiches, so I’m used to non-dairy milks and cheeses now, so the taste of this cheese snack doesn’t bother me. It is a little pricey, but it’s good as an occasional snack.
not good
My coworker bought these, and a group of us tried them. No one could even swallow it. Would not recommend
My toddler loves them
My son has a dairy allergy and it’s unfortunate because he absolutely loves milk products. I decided to give these a try. I gave him one and he was instantly hooked. He was even more excited when I told him this cheese wouldn’t make him itch and he could have as much as he wanted. He asks for one every single day. I’m one happy mama!
creamy, about halfway between regular cheese & other dairy free cheeses
It’s better tasting than the shredded or sliced dairy free cheeses I’ve tried in the last few years, but still not quite what I’m hoping for. There’s just something different about “milk” made cheese. I can’t have milk anymore, so I’m continually on the hunt for good “cheese”.
Love it!
I love the original flavor. Excited to find the new one.
Delicious, creamy, and unlike any vegan "cheese" I've ever tried!
I figured out I was lactose intolerant when I went to college and really didn’t try any dairy alternatives until these past two years. I have tried multiple brands of “cheese” alternatives throughout these two years and they were all chalky with a weird after taste. They never had the right consistency either and I decided I’d rather stick to low lactose cheeses like extra extra sharp cheddar and parmesan and deal with the consequences. So when I picked up this babybel vegan cheese, I didn’t have high hopes, but I had to try it…. and IT’S DELICIOUS! There’s no after taste, the consistency is right, it’s creamy and melts in your mouth. I am obsessed and eat one for snack every day with some wheat thins. Of course they cost a little more than other cheeses, but that’s the case for all vegan options. I’d say it’s worth it though for a treat that doesn’t hurt my body!
Love it!!
Great taste and great texture!! Unable to find it in stores
Best plant based cheese around
Very smooth texture that does mimic mozzarella. They are hard to find but delicious. Wish there were more options like cheddar.
Not what I was expecting
I bought this because I expected it to taste like babybel mozzarella, but of course, like most vegan replacements, you shouldn’t expect it to taste like the original product. It tastes like it should be a spread rather than a stand-alone snack.
If you’ve ever had Tofuti plant-based cream cheese, you will immediately recognize that flavor while eating these. Not something I would recommend eating on its own.
