Earth Balance Popps: Sweet Vegan Popcorn Snacks (DISCONTINUED)

By Alisa Fleming on December 6, 2014 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

Earth Balance Popps were discontinued. We were disappointed since they were such a tasty caramel corn-style treat! See our Dairy-Free Snack Reviews for munchies that are still on the market.

Earth Balance Popps - Peanut Butter and Tis the Season Sweet Popcorn, Nut and Oat SnacksYou know when a product comes along that you just have to sample, but once it hits your lips, you think… “now why did I do that?” One of those indulgences that hits on so many of your favorite flavors that you just can’t stop eating it. That was Earth Balance Popps for me.

Last year they released P.B. Popps which sound virtuous enough – freshly ground peanuts, non-GMO popcorn, certified gluten-free oats, a little smattering of flaxseed for good measure … and oh yeah, a sweet, crackly vegan caramel coating. Yes, it’s “healthified”, but there is still no getting around the fact that this is caramel peanut butter popcorn! And indeed, it’s as delicious as it sounds. Sweet, warm, and just a little earthy, the P.B. Earth Balance Popps could be a healthy foodie’s nemesis.

But why stop with peanut butter? Playing on the popularity of their first variety, Earth Balance Popps were released in a special holiday flavor, ‘Tis the Season.

Earth Balance Popps - Peanut Butter and Tis the Season Sweet Popcorn, Nut and Oat Snacks

Unique in both name and taste, these Earth Balance Popps are a mix of almonds and popcorn with whole grain oats clinging to them via a sweet caramel-like “glue”, all coated in chocolate and cinnamon. Though they use semi-sweet chocolate chips, the bites somehow have more of a cocoa powder finish and aren’t what you would think of as chocolate-coated. Nonetheless, if put in a party bowl, I guarantee that every last sugary crumb would disappear in minutes.

Go Dairy Free - The Guide and Cookbook for Milk Allergies, Lactose Intolerance and Casein-Free LivingCertifications: Earth Balance Popps are Certified Kosher Parve. They are labeled as vegan, gluten-free, and non-GMO, but we didn’t note any certifications for these.

Dietary Notes: By ingredients, Earth Balance Popps are dairy-free / non-dairy, egg-free, gluten-free, vegan / plant-based, and vegetarian. Nonetheless, check with the company on their manufacturing processes for all varieties if potential allergen cross-contamination is an issue for you. Processes and labeling are subject to change at any time for any company / product.
