Updated February 2023! Now you can create your own brew pub experience with Miyoko’s Roadhouse Cheddar Spread. Just grab your favorite local beers and some big soft pretzels for the perfect evening snack. This vegan cheese has that classic sharp flavor, but with a spreadable, cream cheese-like consistency.
Miyoko’s Roadhouse Cheddar Spread is Still Classically Sharp
Cheddar is probably the easiest cheese to mimic dairy-free, so I wasn’t surprised to read many rave reviews about these Roadhouse Spreads. Nevertheless, their initial line up of three flavors has dwindled down over the years. Now they offer just one tangy cheddar variety.
Classic Sharp
This baseline variety is great on sandwiches, with cut vegetables or crackers, or melted into a sauce. We think it could even make a good dairy-free “mac and cheese.”

Absolutely DISGUSTING
I am returning the “Miyoko’s Vegan Roadhouse Cheese Spread (Cheers to Cheddah which should be called TEARS to Cheddah!). It tastes like apple cider vinegar and is overpoweringly SOUR. I am sooooo dissapointed. Buyer Beware!!!! Kiss your palate good bye on this one.
Love it!
This tastes great and also feels great to eat. It has a lot of wonderful probiotics from miso and koji but it doesn’t taste, “heathy” per se, rather it is something a bit decadent that I really look forward to eating. I love it on a great sourdough bread – in stead of a dairy cheese sandwich for lunch. This variety is like a hybrid between two of my favorites: the roadhouse and the chive. I’m very thankful to Miyoko and her team. I don’t like most vegan cheeses but I love theirs!
I find Miyokos to be very acidic
Flavor is Ok for one bite then it becomes very sour to me and irritates the roof of my mouth. I find the active cultures in it to be too overpowering.
Endlessly Versatile
I’ve used these spreads in all sorts of ways…
-Slathered between two slices of bread and toasted for grilled cheese sandwiches
-Toss with pasta and a bit of non-dairy milk for mac and cheese
-Mixed with a bit of salsa for queso dip
-Heated with a touch of white wine for fondue
You can do no wrong with any of the flavors. I try to keep a tub on hand at all times for instantly cheesy meals, snacks, and savory treats!
