Peeled Snacks Gently Dried Fruit is Organic and Sulfite-Free

    2
By Alisa Fleming on April 6, 2008 Dairy-Free Snack Reviews, Product Reviews

To be honest, I had quite the pessimistic attitude when I first came upon these pouches of fruit by Peeled Snacks.  Packaged dried fruit, so what is new? It’s just dried fruit, so simple and plain – but there really is a wow factor to this healthy dairy-free snack.

Growing up I was an avid dried fruit snacker, but with all of the added sugars and sulfites, I eventually reasoned that fresh fruit was probably the only way to go. But Peeled Snacks has taken a step back in time, serving up “gently” dried fruit without the preservatives and sugar. They’ve also transitioned so that all of their fruit picks are not only sulfite-free, but also certified organic.

All of this purity means that the final product isn’t as “pretty” as processed dried fruit, but looks can be deceiving. They taste AMAZING. So fresh, plump, and bursting with flavor.

Tasting Notes for Peeled Snacks Fruit

Peeled Snacks has changed their offerings quite a bit since we first tried it. They no longer offer Pineapple or Cherries on their own, but they still have Apples, Mango (two types), Bananas, and a variety of fruit blends..

I’ve tried Peeled Snacks Mango and can see why it’s still a headliner. These mini mango strips are so true to flavor and easy to devour. They are surprisingly sweet, which led me to wonder why on earth so many manufacturers feel the need to add sugar to dried fruit.

The Bananas are a close second in my book. They are little rounds, like banana chips only dehydrated, and are so deeply fragrant. They aren’t pretty (no sulphites means a brown color), but they have a delicious chew and perfectly sweet flavor.

Beyond the Apples, Bananas, Mango, and Chili Mango, Peeled Snacks come in the following fruit blends:

    • Farmer’s Blend – apples, apricots, and raisins
    • Harvest Blend – roasted pumpkin seeds and diced spiced apples
    • Paradise Blend – mango, pineapple, and banana
    • Tropical Blend – dried mango and papaya seasoned with real lime

I thought dried fruit was dried fruit until I tasted these. They are so fresh, flavorful, and convenient. Definitely a fan.

I purchase Peeled Snacks at the airport in West Palm Beach and can’t find them anywhere else. Are they sold in stores in New York, Boston, and West Palm Beach. I really enjoy them and would like to find them in a retail outlet.

I’m not sure – they used to be in Starbucks, but I haven’t seen them in a while either!
