Planet Oat Oatmilk has always been a low sugar brand, and most of their flavors have “no added sugars” (see note below). But a few grams of sugars are produced in the processing of the oats. So they’ve launched two new “Unsweetened” varieties that each contain zero grams of total sugar to help meet every need.
When Planet Oat Oatmilk was first released, you might have thought this was a fledgling company, but it is produced by HP Hood. They’re a $2 billion, 170-year old dairy, and one of the largest food and beverage companies in the U.S. Like so many other dairy producers, HP Hood jumped into the fast-growing, non-dairy market. But unlike many of their competitors, it looks like they got it right the first time. Planet Oat Oatmilk has been met with rave reviews for it’s creamy consistency, fortification, performance in coffee, and naturally low-sugar taste.
Planet Oat Oatmilk Doubles Down on Low Sugar with New Unsweetened
Aside from the dark chocolate, all of the Planet Oat Oatmilk varieties are made without any added sugars (see note below). As mentioned, an enzymatic process used to make oatmilk (so it isn’t goopy like homemade versions!) breaks some of the carbohydrates down into sugars. So they aren’t sugar-free, but do not have any sugars added to the ingredients. Now, somehow, Planet Oat has managed to remove those last traces of oat sugar in their new, sugar-free, unsweetened varieties. And like their other flavors, these cartons are also generously fortified with vitamins and minerals.

Added Sugar in Planet Oat Oatmilk
It looks like some in-store cartons are now showing 4 grams of added sugars in the Extra Creamy, Original, and Vanilla varieties, despite no change in the total sugars, formula, or information on Planet Oat’s website. There was a ruling that oat milk companies must disclose “oat sugar” created during the production of oat milk (they use an enzymatic process that breaks some of the oat down into simpler carbohydrates), as added sugars. We assume that’s why cartons in store seem to have “added sugars” now. So technically, there still aren’t any types of sugar added to the formula, but sugar is created in the processing.

Delicious
Always been a fan of almond milk but planet oat is my new favorite love the taste
Tastes like real milk!
Even if I say so myself, I am a milk connoisseur and Planet Oat Original Oat Milk tastes like the real thing. Love it! Easy on the digestive track.
BETTER THAN COWS MILK
Finally milk that doesn’t have a funny taste. I tried silk and dumped it down the drain. This excellent
Love it!!!
I’m allergic to dairy & even sunflower oil so what I like about this non dairy oat milk is, that it doesn’t contain sunflower oil like all the others do, except the extra creamy one which I wouldn’t be interested in anyway, but their original & vanilla & even chocolate are all my.favorites & speaking of their dark chocolate one it is the best non dairy chocolate drink I’ve ever had, way better than regular chocolate milk & so addicting as well. Now excuse me while I run back to the store & stock up on more!!!!
Looking for `Planet chocolate oat milk
Was able to find your chocolate oat milk once, but not since. I wish you had it stocked in stores on the Monterey Peninsula. I truly find your product the best non-dairy milk that I have ever tried.
Excellent
Have been drinking at least a quart of milk a day my entire life-
Tried your oat milk 5 months ago and haven’t touched milk since. Really great!
Delicious!
I have only tried this brand of oat milk – Planet Oat. It is great! Tasty! I like it much better on my cereal than almond milk.
dropped milk cold turkey after 50 years....
Dont know what they are doing to milk but for someone who grew up on a farm drinking unpasturized milk and then pasturized after leaving the farm, Milk has the weirdest taste now. Don’t like it – chemicals, pasturization… its not good and wholesome anymore… Tried Planet Oat Milk – SOLD!!! It just seems that Oat Milk (fields, equip, marketing (social media made that cheaper) etc would be cheaper to produce than milk (feed, vet, meds, housing, equip etc…) What makes it so expensive?????
Response from Go Dairy Free
I’m going to speculate that two things make it seem expensive. I don’t believe oats have the same level of subsidies as milk. Dairy is a highly subsidized industry to keep the cost artificially low. Production size also determines cost. Oat milk might be gaining popularity, but it still doesn’t sell in as high a quantity as dairy milk. It’s economies of scale. If the demand increases enough, the cost should go down.
Very good taste by itself, not good in coffee and way too many carbs
I tried the original one and it is probably one of the best tasting non dairy milks that I’ve tried when just drinking a glass by itself. If looking for a good non dairy milk for cereal this one would probably also work very well there too.
I tried some in a coffee and like another reviewer said, it didn’t lighten up the coffee like dairy milk does, but did thicken it a bit and take away a bit of the bitterness. For me it just doesn’t taste nearly as good as califia farms almond milk in my coffee.
For anyone watching their carbs, this one is probably a no-go. This is ultimately a deal breaker for me.
Taste like liquid oatmeal
I tried the plain. It’s fine. I haven’t tried any other brands to compare it to. It’s odd to add it to my coffee and it doesn’t colour it like half and half. But it does take away the bitterness (with added sweetner) of black coffee enough to be drinkable. One thing this website is very inaccurate about is the nutritional facts about the different varieties. The nutrition information listed is for the plain oatmilk. On every variety. This needs to be updated to be accurate according to the actual carton information.
Response from Go Dairy Free
Thank you J.C. It looks like they updated the Vanilla & Dark Chocolate info on their site, so we’ve updated ours too! The other two (Original and Extra Creamy) have remained the same. I appreciate the update from you so that we can keep this info as accurate as possible.
