Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage is Seasonal for Fall (DISCONTINUED)

    11
By Alisa Fleming on November 8, 2016 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

It sounds like Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage won’t be returning for the 2020 season, and possibly beyond. We’re sad to see it go. Fortunately, Good Karma Pumpkin Spice Nog is returning, and you can make your own pumpkin spice drink with our Dairy-Free Pumpkin Spice Sauce (for lattes!).

I recently heard the sad news that So Delicious and Silk have opted to discontinue their Pumpkin holiday products. Fortunately, Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage has emerged to fill the void.

First I must say, what an amazing price! Under $2 for a specialty item like this is seriously hard to beat. Also, Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage is carrageenan-free and fortified with notable quantities of calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and vitamin E. It is sweetened simply with vegan cane sugar, but is a bit of an indulgence with 15 grams per cup. However, each serving contains just 3 grams of fat and 100 calories.

Tasting Notes for Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage

The consistency of Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage is thick, almost like a drinkable smoothie. The flavor is definitely pumpkin with somewhat generous sprinklings of cinnamon and nutmeg. I’m not a big fan of nutmeg, and personally found that spice a bit overpowering.

I don’t typically sip on thin smoothies, so it was a little too thick for my tastes. Nonetheless, I do think Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage would be excellent with a little spiced rum for adults. And for an any day treat, I liked it better once heated. The consistency thinned slightly and the warmth was the perfect spice backdrop. Just be sure to heat it gently and preferably over low heat. I tried to warm it in the microwave which bubbled and caused separation.

And don’t forget about recipes!  Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage is practically made for thick, rich smoothies. It would also be perfect in place of the milk in pancakes, muffins or scones.

Who Makes Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage?

Since Silk and So Delicious Pumpkin Spice Beverages are no more, I wondered who is actually manufacturing Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage. My best guess is Almond Dream. They still offer their Pumpkin Spice beverage, and it looks very similar to this one in ingredients and nutrition.

There are very slight differences between the two, like in fortification and spice levels. But overall, if you are a fan of Almond Dream Pumpkin Spice, then I think Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage could be your new favorite dairy-free holiday beverage.

Sweet and spiked with warm seasonings

I think most of you will either love or hate this creamy holiday drink, but I’m taking the middle ground. It’s thicker than typical almond milk beverage, sweet and spiked with warm seasonings. I find the pumpkin flavor pleasant and perfectly sweetened, but a little too “nutmeg-y” and rich for sipping as is. I preferred it when gently heated, used in smoothies, or as a special addition to pancakes, waffles or baked goods. I also think it would be quite delicious with a little spiced rum for a grown-up holiday tipple.

I saw the Pumpkin Spice beverage on my last visit to TJ’s and grabbed a quart. I think it is delicious! I found it quite creamy and think it will satisfy my eggnog craving rather nicely for fewer calories and less fat.

Siunds great but i wish it were sugar free – unsweetened. Let people choose their sweetener. I prefer stevia and fewer calories.

I felt it was missing a creaminess or something — it’s sweet and very spiced, but it’s missing a rich middle note. I added some soy creamer and it helped a bit.

I was wondering about whether it would be good in coffee and if you had tasted it as a creamer. Still looking for the elusive creamy coffee cream that gives the smoothness of the dairy creamers.

I think so, Sarah. Joanna commented here that she uses it that way!

I like Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Almond Beverage in my morning coffee with a little bit of coconut creamer. It gives my coffee a bit of a “pumpkin spice” flavor. Not too overpowering. 🙂 🙂

      • Alisa Fleming on November 8, 2016 5:06 pm

Great idea Joanna! It is a nice thickness for creamer and I bet that nutmeg melds in nicely.
