Zimt Chocolate Bars include Vegan White, Milkless, and Artisan Dark

By Alisa Fleming on April 10, 2016 Dairy-Free Chocolate Reviews, Product Reviews

I first stumbled across Zimt Chocolate Bars at a Fancy Food Show in San Francisco. The energetic owner was eager for us to sample her high-quality product, and it turns out she had reason to be zealous. Zimt Chocolate Bars are organic, made with raw ethically-sourced ingredients, and vegan. They are also sweetened purely with coconut sugar. But don’t let the healthier profile deceive. Each bite boasts dessert-worthy indulgence with an artisan touch.

Tasting Notes for Zimt Chocolate Bars

Since we tried Zimt Chocolate Bars, they have expanded their product line to include dairy-free “white” chocolate and “milk” chocolate bars. They have the same cocoa butter and coconut sugar purity, but are also enriched with coconut for a creamier finish.

I’ve included details on the varieties we’ve tried below, followed by a quick list of the rest. Please feel free to leave your own rating and review if you’ve bought and tried any of them.

    70% Chocolate

This variety is made only with organic cacao nibs, coconut sugar, and cacao butter – yes, no soy lecithin either! And unlike other brands boasting unrefined sweeteners, Zimt Chocolate Bars are extremely smooth. The 70% had a rich and alluring flavor with coffee-like depth and mellow sweetness that seemed to be void of bitterness. I’d liken it to a “grown-up” chocolate without the harsh bite that is common with many pure chocolate brands.

    Sweet Orange Nib’d

This flavor is made with the same 70% cacao base, but it’s enhanced with a warm, orange essence that has hints of zest and a bold cacao nib crunch. There is a lot of good interest going on in this bar.

    Salt of the Earth

Our Canadian taste tester, Leah bought and tried this flavor.

This flavor is so hard to resist. The salt with the lightly sweet chocolate is so perfectly balanced. It’s rich and smooth like the other bars, but the slight crunch of the sea salt wins me over. It’s such a perfect sweet square for after a meal.

    Maple Smoked Salt + Rosemary

Leah also had the chance to try this variety.

The Salt of the Earth has always been my favourite bar. Until I bit into a square of this Maple Smoked Salt + Rosemary chocolate bar. This flavor is absolutely irresistible. It’s nearly impossible for me to leave a store that sells it without one or two in hand. The flavor combo is so unique and unlike anything else I’ve tasted. The crisp smoked salt with the smooth dark chocolate and the hint of floral rosemary – it’s a game changer!

    What Others Are Saying ...

Smooth in both consistency and flavor

Surprisingly smooth in both consistency and flavor, it’s hard to believe that these 70% cacao bars are sweetened purely with coconut sugar and contain not a drop of emulsifier. The Original is a rich chocoholics dream while the other varieties add significant interest well beyond simple extract flavoring. I don’t usually knock off a star solely for price, but must forewarn that obtaining these high quality chocolate bars can put a small dent in your pocketbook.
