There are a lot of low-calorie, dairy-free ice creams emerging, but Snow Monkey Superfood Ice Treat shuns any type of funny business. They go wild with healthy ingredients in their exotic ice cream flavors, and avoid sugar alcohols. Each flavor is sweetened naturally with fruit and fruit juice, and a few varieties have a touch of maple syrup added.
Snow Monkey Wants You to Eat No Evil with their Dairy-Free Ice Cream
When I spotted Snow Monkey Superfood Ice Treat at Whole Foods, I assumed they had a wildlife conservation mission, like Endangered Species. But the image refers more to their banana base and “no evil” ingredients. In fact, the ingredient lists read like healthy smoothie recipes!

Additional Allergen Notes*
I asked the company about potential cross-contamination issues with allergens, since I was concerned that the “made in a facility” warning wasn’t the whole story. They shared the following information:
Our products are free from all 8 major allergens including gluten, dairy, soy, and nuts. They are also made in a dedicated nut-free facility. The only major allergen that is handled on the same line as our products is milk. However, our products undergo intensive allergen testing to ensure there is no traces of any of the major allergens both. This testing is conducted in the manufacturing facility as well as by a private, third party laboratory.

Love this ice cream replacement
I used to buy these at Sprouts every week. I like the flavors and I like the consistency. If you are looking for a 1 to 1 ice cream replacement but also healthy-this is not it. I like it because most of the ingredients are good for you. The taste is like a frozen fruit treat. I like the chocolate flavor best. Yes, there is guar gum in it, but dairy is worse for you in other ways. I wish my local stores carried Snow Monkey.
Someone thought this was marketable???
Sprouts was clearing out the matcha flavor for what I thought was a steal at 99 cents. I figured heck yeah, I’ll snag the last of them- a few bucks for over $20 worth of ice cream! Well, I cracked into it last night and just about spit out the first bite. I went back for another just to check and yup, it truly is God awful! I’m feeling like the sucker now that i paid anything for this horrible excuse of a snack but I sure would feel much worse if it had been full price. Highly recommend skipping past this one.
My Absolute Favorite
I found Snow Monkey in a Grocery Outlet store a year ago and came back the next day to buy as much as I could. That was the only time I was able to find it, and it became my favorite FOOD… and ice cream.
repulsive
This is the first product I have purchased in a long time that made me vomit. Without question, the ‘Acai Berry’ flavor might just win the award for most disgusting ice cream alternative ever produced. It’s very telling that this repulsive sludge is melting in the hands of the Anna Weis promotional picture on my lid becaise I wouldn’t want this garbage in my mouth either. I returned this to the grocery store and filed a complaint against the brand.
Tastes like a smoothie to me
I went to Sprouts and saw this dessert for sale for $1.99 due it it being “discontinued”. I looked it up hoping that it won’t be discontinued since I love it.
To my taste buds it tastes like an expensive smoothie I would get at a smoothie store with plant protein but it’s frozen solid. Which is an easy fix… Not sure why there are complaints but if you let it sit out for a few minutes it solves that problem.
The chalky taste people are talking about is the protein. If you’re used to consuming protein in your smoothies or in general it won’t bother you.
This description goes for the Açaí Berry pint. I also purchased the matcha but I didn’t really like it personally.
I’m probably going to go back and purchase the remaining pints. I love the flavor of the sunflower butter with the banana base.
Good protein and fiber source
Got the vanilla as a substitute for the sold out coconut bliss. Not comparable AT ALL as far as vegan ice cream goes. Would never ever serve this to guests as ice cream, even if they were vegan. It’s not horrible though, and I’m surprised people threw it away. Once I started thinking vegan protein and fiber source, I started liking it as a after workout snack. Wouldn’t pay full price again but might try another flavor on sale as a healthy snack in addition to actual vegan ice cream.
Green tea🤢
I love Matcha green tea ice cream. This was so bad I had to throw it away. I ate about a quarter of it and I was sick all night. Several nights later I thought I would give it another try. Nope, after only a few bites it made me feel the same for the rest of the evening. I just threw it down the garbage disposal.
Terrible texture
The flavor is strong but the texture is terrible, it’s like eating frozen chalk with ice. I’ll stick with almond/oat milk/avocado ice creams.
Not terrible
Found these at grocery outlet and decided to try it out. The protein powder added to it is what leads to the weird taste I think. But it’s not bad and is a good little post-workout snack. 🙂
