Maggiano’s Little Italy Makes Food Allergic Diners Feel at Home

    2
By Alisa Fleming on January 31, 2023 Dining Out, Suggested Restaurants, U.S. Restaurants

Updated February 2023! Maggiano’s is happy to boast they are repeatedly ranked as a top allergy-friendly restaurant chain in the U.S. by AllergyEats. This rather upscale Italian restaurant takes special diet needs seriously and their staff is quite accommodating. When an allergy is mentioned, it isn’t uncommon for the chef to come to your table to discuss the issue personally. And since everything is made from scratch, they can usually make modifications for special requests. Nevertheless, they do have a handful of dairy-free options right on the main menu, which are carefully outlined in their allergen guide.

The dairy-free options on their menu aren’t earth shattering. But if there is something else on the main menu that you really want to try, don’t hesitate to ask your server. You might be surprised what they can accommodate! Be aware of special order requirements in parentheses () next to the menu items, and see the Heads Up notes to help fill in the blanks.

Other Allergen & Dietary Notes: All items listed below are made without egg, peanut, tree nuts, and soy unless otherwise noted. We have noted which items contain wheat. They do have gluten-free pasta available at Maggiano’s. For vegan options, see the Vegan Menu Guide at the bottom of this post.

Heads Up! The Bruschetta, Calamari, Crispy Zucchini, and Steamed Mussels at Maggiano’s do contain milk.

Heads Up! Dairy-free customers can add Chicken, Salmon, or Shrimp to make their salad a meal. The croutons at Maggiano’s are also reportedly dairy-free.

There is always a risk for potential cross-contamination of allergens in any commercial kitchen. If cross-contamination is an issue for you, always speak with the manager to ensure that your meal can be safely prepared. Listings here do not guarantee that a restaurant is safe enough for your individual needs. Only you can make that decision.

Each location of a chain restaurant has different management and staff, and some might have different owners. This means differences in processes, ingredients used, menu options, and food sourcing can occur. Always verify the safety of your order for your needs at your current location.

Maggiano’s in Los Angeles at The Grove is also wonderful about accomodating food allergies. I gave them a rave review on Yelp last year. They were so helpful about my special-needs, dairy-free kid I almost cried, actually. We’re going back for her birthday, even though it’s a 2 hour drive!
