Binnie’s Coconut Butter Spreads the Love with Six Healthy Flavors (DISCONTINUED)

    0
By Alisa Fleming on August 6, 2018 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

We’re not sure if they will quickly bounce back, but for now, it looks like Binnie’s Coconut Butter is off the market. There are some other chocolate coconut spreads on the market, like Artisana Cacao Spreads. You can also see our Dairy-Free Dip & Spread Reviews for other options.

Several brands of flavored nut butters have emerged over the years, but now it’s time for coconut’s turn in the spread spotlight. Binnie’s Coconut Butter comes in six varieties, and all are dairy-free and vegan.

I tested them out by the spoonful to get the full flavor experience. And then I slathered each one on soft homemade Whole-Grain Sandwich Bread (my recipe is in Go Dairy Free: The Guide and Cookbook) to see how they perform. The results were delicious and fulfilling.

Tasting Notes for Binnie’s Coconut Butter

All of the flavors we tried are surprisingly solid, even at warmer room temperatures. They didn’t come out smoothly for us, but when mashed in a bowl, they softened enough for spreading. And they do melt nicely onto warm toast or a bowl of fresh cooked oats. On the jar it states to place the jar in a bowl of hot water. I tried this, but wasn’t a fan of the melty consistency for spreading or taste testing.

The consistency of Binnie’s Coconut Butter is rustic, with little bits of coconut throughout. But the overall mouthfeel has the indulgence and richness of pure coconut butter. And the flavors are crafted with natural depth that perfectly complements the underlying coconut flavor. If you’re coconut averse, move on. But if you’re a fan of coconut, like me, then these are worth a splurge. Thus far, I’ve tried the following flavors.

    Dark Chocolate + Sea Salt

This flavor has just enough sweetness to keep any bitter cacao at bay, but it is a really dark blend. I personally like my chocolate just a smidgen sweeter, but I think this one is probably perfect for paleo and purist chocoholics.

Ingredients – organic shredded coconut, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic coconut syrup, organic cocoa powder, sea salt. Contains coconut. Manufactured in a peanut free facility. Manufactured in a facility that processes tree nuts and wheat.

    Sweet Maple

I was immediately smitten by the alluring taste of this tan coconut butter. The warm maple flavor is just a touch sweet with rich hints of sea salt peaking through.

Ingredients – organic shredded coconut, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic maple sugar, maple extract, sea salt. Contains coconut. Manufactured in a peanut free facility. Manufactured in a facility that processes tree nuts and wheat.

    Very Vanilla (Alisa’s Top Pick)

It’s hard to decide, but this might have edged out the Sweet Maple for my favorite flavor of Binnie’s Coconut Butter. It’s very vanilla with warmth, light sweetness, and those same sea salt hints.

Ingredients – organic shredded coconut, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic coconut syrup, organic vanilla, sea salt. Contains coconut. Manufactured in a peanut free facility. Manufactured in a facility that processes tree nuts and wheat.
