Summary:

Smooth, decadent and oh-so-dreamy, I've found my holy grail of dairy-free ice creams. If you're a fan of the rich notes of traditional butter pecan, then these cashew-based delights are a must try. I swooned for the sweet luxuriousness of the simple Creamy Cashew, but found equally addicted to the Snickerdoodle and Dark Chocolate Truffle. Our tasters also raved over the newly introduced creamy Vanilla (so versatile!) and addicting Chocolate Cookies 'n Cream.

Updated! As anticipated, So Delicious Cashew Milk Ice Cream is so wildly popular that they’ve released MORE flavors. They’re also updating their packaging to a sunny orange hue …

So Delicious Dairy Free Cashew Milk Ice Cream - so creamy, sweet and decadent, you won't believe it's vegan and soy-free!

I’m not removing my pictures with the old packaging as the ice cream still looks that amazing, but am adding to the review to cover the new varieties. Please note that the Salted Caramel Cluster was reintroduced and has a slightly new vibe, too. Now onto that review …

I’ve always enjoyed dairy-free ice cream – the many flavor nuances of different dreamy bases and the array of whole food ingredients. But my occasional treat has just escalated to full-blow, must-have cravings thanks to the new Cashew Milk Ice Cream from So Delicious Dairy Free.

At long last, the holy grail of dairy-free ice cream has arrived. My taste buds are doing a happy dance … and I better get my body boogieing, too, in anticipation of how many pints of this cashew milk ice cream that I’ll probably consume this year.

So Delicious Dairy Free Cashew Milk Ice Cream - so creamy, sweet and decadent, you won't believe it's vegan and soy-free!

The launch of So Delicious Dairy Free cashew milk ice cream included not one, not two, but five phenomenal flavors, each taste-tested and approved by both Tony and me. And now, they’ve added three MORE flavors bringing the grand total to EIGHT deliciously rich cashew milk ice cream pints:

Creamy Cashew (pictured below) – This baseline cashew milk ice cream is rich with warm, almost butterscotch notes, that remind me of pure butter pecan ice cream. It’s decadent, addicting, sweet and unique, yet totally versatile, like a good vanilla, but with a caramel-esque vibe. The consistency is creamy and luxurious, without a speck of iciness, yet not overly heavy (read: I really could eat half a pint in one sitting).

Snickerdoodle – As the first spoonful began to melt on my tongue, I thought “what’s snickerdoodle about th… ooohhh… there it is!” Those spot on cinnamon cookie flavors sneak up but then escalate into a full blown sugar rush. Over the top amazing! Generous bites of gluten-free snickerdoodle cookie dough even pop up periodically.

Dark Chocolate Truffle – Passionately rich, denser and more intense than the others, this cashew milk ice cream flavor has a decadent chocoholic vibe, from organic fair trade cocoa, and ample dairy-free, soy-free chocolate shards.

Cappuccino – Though it was a little too java for this herbal tea drinker, this dairy-free cashew milk ice cream spiked with organic fair trade coffee and a sprinkle of cinnamon is a must try for any latte-lover. The flavor nuances were unmistakably pure.

Salted Caramel Cluster – This flavor used to be the creamy cashew base layered with thick ribbons of dairy-free caramel and dotted with chocolate-covered whole cashews and cashew pieces. However, the reintroduced version lacked the chocolate-covered cashews. Instead it has thin drizzles of caramel, chocolate pieces and chunks of cashew. It’s still delicious in its own right with lots of interesting bits, but admittedly, we miss the original version.

Vanilla – Interestingly enough, traditional vanilla and chocolate weren’t in the initial line-up of So Delicious cashew milk ice cream. Rather they came out in the second batch. This one is very similar to the wonderful Creamy Cashew but with a notable burst of sweet vanilla to help it stand apart. It’s insanely versatile and will surely be a go to dairy-free ice cream for me.

Chocolate – Unlike most So Delicious goodies, this cashew milk ice cream lacked the wow factor. It had that wonderful creamy base, and was good, but our tasters agreed that it wasn’t the flavor they would likely repurchase. I think it would serve it’s purpose in a sundae or ice cream sandwich – it just needs something to jazz it up.

Chocolate Cookies ‘n Cream – And here’s that chocolate, all jazzed up! This flavor was a spoons down, decadent winner. Big chocolate cookie chunks throughout made this cashew milk ice cream a luxurious experience that no one could possibly guess is dairy free.

As for the ingredients, I know many of your will ask, so I’ll briefly address (though you can see the full ingredient lists via the So Delicious website). Yes, it is dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free, vegan and even carrageenan-free! No, it isn’t safe for tree nut allergies, as it is indeed cashew-based. That all said, I’m more happy about what it does contain than what it doesn’t. The Creamy Cashew is made with just cashew milk (water, cashews, and a splash of non-GMO canola oil), organic cane syrup, sea salt, vanilla and a pinch of gums to aid that alluring consistency. I love simplicity!

I’m terrible at photographing ice cream (note to self: do not use a warm dish!), but even with my shotty scooping abilities, I think you can see just how pure and milky this cashew milk ice cream really is.

  1. I love this icecream I would love to have it in a gallon or even a 5gal this is so good and I wonder if they make strawberry, hazelnut, that would be awesome love this product Finley I can eat ice cream hopefully next I can eat some nochocheeses!!!!!!♡♡♡♡

    • Heavens no! It’s way too popular and not going out any time soon. That’s the problem though. They have had some trouble keeping up with demand. Check your local Walmart (they usually have some stock), Whole Foods, natural food stores, and they are getting into some other conventional retailers slowly.

  2. The new version of Salted Caramel Cluster is so disappointing. I couldn’t get enough of the original recipe. The chocolate covered cashews were the star of the original. The large pieces of plain cashew and the thin shavings of chocolate are an unsatisfying substitute.

    • I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks the new version of the Salted Caramel Cluster is not as good!

I remember being excited when I saw it back on the shelves, buying it, taking it home, then being disappointed by how it looks and tastes!

If anyone from So Delicious reads this, please bring back the original version!

  4. I love the Cashew Milk Ice Cream. It is so much creamier and softer than it’s sister product So Delicious Coconut Milk Ice Cream! I have only tried the Salted Caramel Cluster but really who needs any other flavor because this one is DA’BOMB!

  5. I can not express what JOY this Snickerdoodle ice cream brings me!!!! I have Dairy and Gluten allergies and one of the things I miss the most is ice cream, even in the winter. I am glad that the local grocery carries it, now if I can get the Soda Fountain Drug Store here in town to carry some the would be INCREDIBLE!!!

I’m eating the snicker doodle right now and I am in love! I cannot believe it is dairy free! It is amazing! I got the last container at Vons.

    • Hi Mary, you might want too google Snickerdoodle! It’s a cinnamon type of cookie – quite different from a Snickers candy bar. If you’re a chocolate caramel fan, I would try the Chocolate Caramel Cluster instead 🙂

      • Anything involving sweet cinnamon is usually addicting to me and this cashew ice cream is phenomenal. One of my all time favorite vegan sweets!

  8. Just tried Snickerdoodle…this Cashew Milk ice cream is in league of its own!…would never have known it was dairy free if someone served to me. Just wrote my health food store to carry it…must try each flavor…imagine the chocolate truffle paired withe salted caramel.

  9. Our area in eastern PA is now experiencing our second shortage of Salted Caramel. I am happy to have Chocolate Truffle as an alternative, but several months ago, soon after the Salted Caramel disappeared the first time, the CT ran out as well, so I am expecting that is already happening again as I write this. The only other option in our local stores (Giant, Wegman’s) is the plain Creamy Cashew which is good, but much easier to resist. Are the Salted Caramel and the Chocolate Truffle only made once every 3 months or so?

  10. THE SALTED CARAMEL IS TO DIE FOR!!!! This is the greatest ice cream I’ve had since I had to go dairy free. I can’t get enough of it. It is as good as Ben and Jerry’s Steven Colbert’s Americone Dream. If I could eat dairy again tomorrow I would STILL buy this. That’s how good this is. Can’t wait to try the snickerdoodle.

I have found this at Natural Grocers where I live. I tried the snickerdoodle one first. I tried dark chocolate truffle next. They are both yummy! They are the same price as the other So Delicious ice cream alternatives.
