Summary:

Smooth, decadent and oh-so-dreamy, I've found my holy grail of dairy-free ice creams. If you're a fan of the rich notes of traditional butter pecan, then these cashew-based delights are a must try. I swooned for the sweet luxuriousness of the simple Creamy Cashew, but found equally addicted to the Snickerdoodle and Dark Chocolate Truffle. Our tasters also raved over the newly introduced creamy Vanilla (so versatile!) and addicting Chocolate Cookies 'n Cream.

Updated! As anticipated, So Delicious Cashew Milk Ice Cream is so wildly popular that they’ve released MORE flavors. They’re also updating their packaging to a sunny orange hue …

I’m not removing my pictures with the old packaging as the ice cream still looks that amazing, but am adding to the review to cover the new varieties. Please note that the Salted Caramel Cluster was reintroduced and has a slightly new vibe, too. Now onto that review …

Tasting Notes for So Delicious Dairy Free Cashew Milk Ice Cream

I’ve always enjoyed dairy-free ice cream – the many flavor nuances of different dreamy bases and the array of whole food ingredients. But my occasional treat has just escalated to full-blow, must-have cravings thanks to the new Cashew Milk Ice Cream from So Delicious Dairy Free.

At long last, the holy grail of dairy-free ice cream has arrived. My taste buds are doing a happy dance … and I better get my body boogieing, too, in anticipation of how many pints of this cashew milk ice cream that I’ll probably consume this year.

So Delicious Dairy Free Cashew Milk Ice Cream - so creamy, sweet and decadent, you won't believe it's vegan and soy-free!

The launch of So Delicious Dairy Free cashew milk ice cream included not one, not two, but five phenomenal flavors, each taste-tested and approved by both Tony and me. And now, they’ve added three MORE flavors bringing the grand total to EIGHT deliciously rich cashew milk ice cream pints:

Creamy Cashew (pictured below)

This baseline cashew milk ice cream is rich with warm, almost butterscotch notes, that remind me of pure butter pecan ice cream. It’s decadent, addicting, sweet and unique, yet totally versatile, like a good vanilla, but with a caramel-esque vibe. The consistency is creamy and luxurious, without a speck of iciness, yet not overly heavy (read: I really could eat half a pint in one sitting).

Snickerdoodle

As the first spoonful began to melt on my tongue, I thought “what’s snickerdoodle about th… ooohhh… there it is!” Those spot on cinnamon cookie flavors sneak up but then escalate into a full blown sugar rush. Over the top amazing! Generous bites of gluten-free snickerdoodle cookie dough even pop up periodically.

Dark Chocolate Truffle

Passionately rich, denser and more intense than the others, this cashew milk ice cream flavor has a decadent chocoholic vibe, from organic fair trade cocoa, and ample dairy-free, soy-free chocolate shards.

Cappuccino

This one was a little too java for this herbal tea drinker. It’s spiked with organic fair trade coffee and a sprinkle of cinnamon and is a must try for any latte-lover. The flavor nuances were unmistakably pure.

Salted Caramel Cluster

This flavor used to be the creamy cashew base layered with thick ribbons of dairy-free caramel and dotted with chocolate-covered whole cashews and cashew pieces. However, the reintroduced version lacked the chocolate-covered cashews. Instead it has thin drizzles of caramel, chocolate pieces and chunks of cashew. It’s still delicious in its own right with lots of interesting bits, but admittedly, we miss the original version.

Vanilla

Interestingly enough, traditional vanilla and chocolate weren’t in the initial line-up of So Delicious cashew milk ice cream. Rather they came out in the second batch. This one is very similar to the wonderful Creamy Cashew but with a notable burst of sweet vanilla. It’s insanely versatile and will surely be a go to dairy-free ice cream for me.

Chocolate

Unlike most So Delicious goodies, this cashew milk ice cream lacked the wow factor. It had that wonderful creamy base, and was good, but our tasters agreed that it wasn’t the flavor they would likely repurchase. I think it would serve it’s purpose in a sundae or ice cream sandwich. It just needs something to jazz it up.

Chocolate Cookies ‘n Cream

And here’s that chocolate, all jazzed up! This flavor was a spoons down, decadent winner. Big chocolate cookie chunks throughout made this cashew milk ice cream a luxurious experience. No one could possibly guess is dairy free.

As for the ingredients, I know many of your will ask, so I’ll briefly address (though you can see the full ingredient lists via the So Delicious website). Yes, it is dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free, vegan and even carrageenan-free! No, it isn’t safe for tree nut allergies, as it is indeed cashew-based. That all said, I’m more happy about what it does contain than what it doesn’t. The Creamy Cashew is made with just cashew milk (water, cashews, and a splash of non-GMO canola oil), organic cane syrup, sea salt, vanilla and a pinch of gums to aid that alluring consistency. I love simplicity!

Just look at how lush and creamy it is!

  3. This is one of the best ice-creams I’ve had since going dairy free. I love my ice-cream and thought my life would be without forever…..so sad. Then I found out about So-Delicious brand. Every type they make is wonderful and satisfying – creamy, smooth, everything that true, rich ice-cream should be. It’s not ice-milky. It’s so creamy and delicious. Great name for the products too!! The Salted Caramel is divine as is the Decadent Chocolate. The soy-milk types of ice-cream are wonderful too. Try them all and find your favorite. Now I can have ice-cream anytime I want it…..which is all the time! Thanks, So Delicious. You’ve created a life-long fan in me!!

  4. I can only find these at Whole Foods 45 minutes away from home. It was well worth my efforts to pack it and take some snickerdoodle home with me a few weeks ago! Creamy, slightly sweet with believable chunks of snickerdoodle cookie dough – what’s not to love? IMO, this is vastly preferrable to coconut milk, rice milk, and almond milk based non-dairy ice creams.

  5. My Kroger just started carrying these and while there are a little expensive, they are not bad if you can catch them on sale and pace yourself! When I ate dairy, coffee ice cream was always a favorite so I started with the Cappuccino flavor. It was good but did not seem markedly better than some of the other non-cashew So Delicious flavors. Then I tried the Snickerdoodle and it seems like the best ice cream I have ever had. It is a little bit crispy with cinnamon and the chunks of cookie dough are delicious. My husband will even eat it and he is usually wary about non-dairy products. 🙂

  6. This concoction is so wonderful, it has helped turn my lacto ovo boyfriend off dairy ice cream! He’s never really liked any of the non-dairy options before. So thankful!!!

Favorites are the Snickerdoodle and the Chocolate crunch one!

  7. I just got the cappuccino one, since I’ve been having a tiramisu-like craving lately. OMG! This is sooooooo good! And it’s so simply-made! I would lessen the cinnamon they put in there, but man, I love what I’m tasting.

Only downside is the price; but ice cream supposed to be a once-in-a-long-while treat anyways.

  9. I tried the Snickerdoodle one last week and found it amazingly delicious! I will look for one of the other flavors when I go shopping tomorrow – The Chocolate Truffle sounds good to me! Actually, they all do, but I think I want to try this one next!

I think I might even like this ice cream better than the So Delicious Coconut Ice Cream – which used to be my favorite non-dairy ice cream!

  10. Omg! I can’t find that cashew milk salty caramel clusters anywhere. I got it once from my local Target next day sold out and never seen it again. I need this in my life now.. Lol

  11. ALISA! After your review, I went hunting and found it at Sprouts. All I can say is AMAZING! Even the dairy eaters loved it and not in the condescending, “oh this is nice for you since you can’t have dairy” way. Decadent, rich, delicious but not heavy. Thx again, you haven’t steered me wrong ever.

          • Thank you for the warning! I won’t try that flavor first then, haha 😀 Any suggestion on which flavor to try first though? I plan to finally try one of the flavors this weekend (I’m an obsessive meal planner, sorry), and I’m not sure which one to start with… although I was thinking about the Snickerdoodle one.

          • I’m all about starting with the “baseline” flavor first to get a feel for the product – which would be the Creamy Cashew (which is now my go-to staple!) – but, you can’t go wrong with the Snickerdoodle either!

          • Excellent advice! I will go with the Creamy Cashew or Snickerdoodle then, to begin. I’m too excited about the ice cream, haha 😀 Thank you for always providing genuine reviews and advice, Alisa!
