So Delicious Cashew Milk Ice Cream is a Creamy Dairy-Free Mainstay

    76
By Alisa Fleming on January 18, 2021 Dairy-Free Ice Cream Reviews, Product Reviews

In the past couple of years, So Delicious Cashew Milk Ice Cream has stepped into the shadows, letting Oat Milk Ice Cream bask in the limelight. But it’s still one of the creamiest, most beloved dairy-free frozen desserts on the market. And So Delicious hasn’t abandoned their cashew product line. In fact, they introduce a new flavor or two each year.

So Delicious constantly redesigns their packaging, so my pictures below have old packaging. But the ice cream inside looks the same. For the look of the new packaging, see the product images with the ingredients and nutrition facts.

So Delicious Dairy Free Cashew Milk Ice Cream - so creamy, sweet and decadent, you won't believe it's vegan and soy-free!

Tasting Notes for So Delicious Dairy Free Cashew Milk Ice Cream

I’ve always enjoyed dairy-free ice cream – the many flavor nuances of different dreamy bases and the array of whole food ingredients. But my occasional treat escalated to full-blow, must-have cravings when So Delicious Cashew Milk Ice Cream hit the freezer aisle.

Their initial launch included five pint flavors. Over time, some flavors have come and gone, but this is the line-up you can currently find in the freezer section. I’ve included some of our tasting notes, but please do leave your own unbiased star rating and review below!

    Very Vanilla

Interestingly enough, traditional vanilla and chocolate weren’t in the initial line-up of So Delicious cashew milk ice cream. Rather they came out in the second batch. The consistency of the vanilla is creamy and luxurious, without a speck of iciness, yet not overly heavy. The flavor is rich with a notable burst of sweet vanilla. It’s insanely versatile and will surely be a go to dairy-free ice cream for me.

So Delicious Cashew Milk Ice Cream Reviews and Info. Creamy, Dairy-Free, Vegan. Pictured: Very VanillaIngredients: cashewmilk (filtered water, cashews), cane sugar, organic coconut oil, organic tapioca syrup, pea protein, sea salt, guar gum, vanilla extract, natural flavors, locust bean gum. contains cashew, coconut.

    Creamy Chocolate

Unlike most So Delicious goodies, this cashew milk ice cream lacked the wow factor for us. It had that wonderful creamy base, and was good, but our tasters agreed that it wasn’t the flavor they would likely repurchase. I think it would serve it’s purpose in a sundae or ice cream sandwich. It just needs something to jazz it up.

    Chocolate Cookies ‘n’ Cream

And here’s that chocolate, all jazzed up! This flavor was a spoons down, decadent winner. Big chocolate cookie chunks throughout made this cashew milk ice cream a luxurious experience. No one could possibly guess is dairy free.

    Snickerdoodle

As the first spoonful began to melt on my tongue, I thought “what’s snickerdoodle about th… ooohhh… there it is!” Those spot on cinnamon cookie flavors sneak up but then escalate into a full blown sugar rush. Over the top amazing! Generous bites of gluten-free snickerdoodle cookie dough even pop up periodically.

    Salted Caramel Cluster

This flavor used to be the creamy cashew base layered with thick ribbons of dairy-free caramel and dotted with chocolate-covered whole cashews and cashew pieces. However, the reintroduced version lacked the chocolate-covered cashews. Instead it has thin drizzles of caramel, chocolate pieces and chunks of cashew. It’s still delicious in its own right with lots of interesting bits, but admittedly, we miss the original version.

    Dark Chocolate Truffle

Passionately rich, denser and more intense than the others, this cashew milk ice cream flavor has a decadent chocoholic vibe, from organic fair trade cocoa, and ample dairy-free, soy-free chocolate shards.

    Chocolate Drizzled Bananas Foster

Tony really liked this chocolate-covered banana delight. It’s definitely banana forward, but with a creaminess and indulgence level that makes it a true dairy-free ice cream instead of “nice cream.”

    Peanut Butter Brownie

They snuck this flavor onto store shelves in 2021. smooth peanut butter cashewmilk ice cream with brownie bits. A new take on the classic peanut butter cup!

So Delicious Cashewmilk Ice Cream Reviews and Info - New flavor in 2021: Peanut Butter Brownie - dairy-free and veganIngredients: cashewmilk (filtered water, cashews), cane sugar, organic coconut oil, peanuts, rice flour, organic tapioca syrup, peanut oil, invert sugar, palm oil, cocoa, pea protein, sea salt, cocoa (processed with alkali), chocolate liquor, canola oil, guar gum, locust bean gum, salt, natural flavor, cocoa butter, vanilla extract. contains cashew, coconut, peanut.

    Discontinued Flavors

Over the years, So Delicious has discontinued their Cappuccino, Creamy Cashew (sniff, sniff), and Peachy Maple Pecan (still produced for Canada) Cashew Milk Ice Cream flavors.

So Delicious Dairy Free Cashew Milk Ice Cream - so creamy, sweet and decadent, you won't believe it's vegan and soy-free!

I really enjoy So Delicious ice creams. I wish they would bring back their organic almond milk. I would also like to know the glyphosate amounts in the almond milk ice cream. I eat a lot of the peanut butter brownie flavor and would appreciate knowing what I am consuming besides ice cream that is tasting good.

My favorite is Salted Caramel Cluster…truly lives up to the name…”So Delicious,” but the price is crazy high. $5.50 – $7.00 for one pint of dessert? I wait til it goes on sale, which is infrequent, but otherwise you’re paying between 17 and 22 cents a tablespoon.

I am VERY picky on my ice cream and my chocolate! (I am 5 mos into the plant based diet.) I don’t like coconut but I gave a try of 6 different companies & their coconut ice cream, including Trader Joes. With my taste buds they were all terrible. Too sweet and I could taste too much of the coconut. I thought a find would be hopeless but then I tried your Double Chocolate delight dipped bars…… oh my gosh, perfect!! I highly recommend trying this!!!! I’m looking forward to trying the Dark Chocolate Truffle!

I love this stuff! Very vanilla is my favorite as I can’t have chocolate so please don’t ever get rid of it or change it up as it’s perfect the way it is. It has so much yummy flavor that it doesn’t need anything else. Just eat it plain. Thank you so much for making this alternative:)

This is one of the best ice-creams I’ve had since going dairy free. I love my ice-cream and thought my life would be without forever…..so sad. Then I found out about So-Delicious brand. Every type they make is wonderful and satisfying – creamy, smooth, everything that true, rich ice-cream should be. It’s not ice-milky. It’s so creamy and delicious. Great name for the products too!! The Salted Caramel is divine as is the Decadent Chocolate. The soy-milk types of ice-cream are wonderful too. Try them all and find your favorite. Now I can have ice-cream anytime I want it…..which is all the time! Thanks, So Delicious. You’ve created a life-long fan in me!!

I like the soy milk ones, too, Dianne. I think they are underloved! But these Cashew Milk Ice Creams are the best!

    6. mamarabu on May 12, 2015 7:03 pm

I can only find these at Whole Foods 45 minutes away from home. It was well worth my efforts to pack it and take some snickerdoodle home with me a few weeks ago! Creamy, slightly sweet with believable chunks of snickerdoodle cookie dough – what’s not to love? IMO, this is vastly preferrable to coconut milk, rice milk, and almond milk based non-dairy ice creams.

      • Alisa Fleming on May 12, 2015 9:27 pm

Agreed, worth bringing an ice pack for!

    7. Emily on May 11, 2015 4:04 pm

My Kroger just started carrying these and while there are a little expensive, they are not bad if you can catch them on sale and pace yourself! When I ate dairy, coffee ice cream was always a favorite so I started with the Cappuccino flavor. It was good but did not seem markedly better than some of the other non-cashew So Delicious flavors. Then I tried the Snickerdoodle and it seems like the best ice cream I have ever had. It is a little bit crispy with cinnamon and the chunks of cookie dough are delicious. My husband will even eat it and he is usually wary about non-dairy products. 🙂

      • Alisa Fleming on May 11, 2015 4:17 pm

Agreed, it’s pretty amazing. We actually love the “plain” Creamy Cashew, too!

    8. Steph Hendricks on May 11, 2015 10:24 am

This concoction is so wonderful, it has helped turn my lacto ovo boyfriend off dairy ice cream! He’s never really liked any of the non-dairy options before. So thankful!!!

Favorites are the Snickerdoodle and the Chocolate crunch one!

      • Alisa Fleming on May 11, 2015 11:27 am

Seriously, it’s that good! My husband eats up every flavor!

    9. Good on May 7, 2015 5:22 pm

I just got the cappuccino one, since I’ve been having a tiramisu-like craving lately. OMG! This is sooooooo good! And it’s so simply-made! I would lessen the cinnamon they put in there, but man, I love what I’m tasting.

Only downside is the price; but ice cream supposed to be a once-in-a-long-while treat anyways.

      • Alisa Fleming on May 7, 2015 5:45 pm

Agreed – I think the slight premium price tag is the only thing that keeps me from downing 2 pints a week 🙂

I tried the Snickerdoodle one last week and found it amazingly delicious! I will look for one of the other flavors when I go shopping tomorrow – The Chocolate Truffle sounds good to me! Actually, they all do, but I think I want to try this one next!

I think I might even like this ice cream better than the So Delicious Coconut Ice Cream – which used to be my favorite non-dairy ice cream!

    12. Dee on April 13, 2015 1:20 pm

Even the dairy eaters loved it and not in the condescending, “oh this is nice for you since you can’t have dairy” way. Decadent, rich, delicious but not heavy. Thx again, you haven’t steered me wrong ever.

They should! If not now, then very soon 🙂

Found them today at Whole Foods! So excited! 🙂 I bought every flavor except for Cappuccino (I’m not a coffee person).

Me neither! I hope you enjoy! All the rest are amazing I think, but be warned that the fudgy one is intense 🙂

Thank you for the warning! I won’t try that flavor first then, haha 😀 Any suggestion on which flavor to try first though? I plan to finally try one of the flavors this weekend (I’m an obsessive meal planner, sorry), and I’m not sure which one to start with… although I was thinking about the Snickerdoodle one.

I’m all about starting with the “baseline” flavor first to get a feel for the product – which would be the Creamy Cashew (which is now my go-to staple!) – but, you can’t go wrong with the Snickerdoodle either!

Excellent advice! I will go with the Creamy Cashew or Snickerdoodle then, to begin. I’m too excited about the ice cream, haha 😀 Thank you for always providing genuine reviews and advice, Alisa!
