Chocolate, Chia, Raspberry & Acai Smoothie Bowl with Superfood Powers

In May, I shared a new book release with  you: ACAI Super Berry Cookbook by Melissa Petitto, RD. Melissa shared a sample recipe from her collection for Acai, Cherry, and Chia Pops. And today she’s giving us a second sneak peak, with this Chocolate, Chia, Raspberry, and Acai Smoothie Bowl recipe. Isn’t it gorgeous?

If you’re like me, then acai might seem a little exotic. But it is gaining popularity and becoming more readily available in stores.

Acai Super Berry Cookbook: Over 50 Natural and Healthy Smoothie, Bowl, and Sweet Treat RecipesThe acai berry is native to the Amazon rainforest and is often described as a cross between blackberries and unsweetened chocolate. Since the acai has a short shelf life and isn’t available fresh outside of where they are grown the berry is typically exported as a frozen puree, fine powder or pressed juice. Healthline outlines the following five health benefits of the Brazilian superfruit:

    1. Nutrient Dense – Acai are relatively high in fat and low in sugar.
    2. Loaded with Antioxidants – Incredibly rich in antioxidants, boasting three times the amount found in blueberries.
    3. Improve Cholesterol Levels – Several studies have suggested that acai may help lower cholesterol levels.
    4. Possible Anti-Cancer Effect – Acai could have a role in treating cancer in the future, yet more research is needed.
    5. Boost of Brain Function – Acai could counteract the effects of inflammation and oxidation in the brain.

Pair that with the healthy benefits of chocolate, chia seeds, and raspberries, and I think it’s safe to say that this is a superfood smoothie bowl.

    By ingredients, this recipe is dairy-free / non-dairy, egg-free, gluten-free, grain-free, peanut-free, soy-free, vegan, plant-based, paleo-friendly, and vegetarian.

For a nut-free acai smoothie bowl, substitute your favorite dairy-free, nut-free milk beverage for the almond milk.

This custard like smoothie bowl is full of superfoods! Dark raw cacao, chia seeds, and acai make this bowl an over the top nutritional powerhouse. I love this for breakfast, lunch, a snack, or dessert; it’s so versatile.
