Berry Tropical Oat Milk Smoothies to Start Your Day on the Right Note

We’re reprising this recipe for berry tropical oat milk smoothies from late last year. It’s the perfect late summer into fall recipe, since it uses fresh blackberries, wholesome oats, and a bright selection of frozen fruits. It even has some sneaky spinach (you can’t see or taste it!) for a nutrient-dense breakfast or afternoon pick-me-up.

This jazzy combination was originally shared with us by Dole, and inspired by Disney and Pixar movie Soul. The berries give it a bluesy look, while the pineapple adds citrusy notes that help the overall flavor sing.

You can use fresh or frozen fruit (you can even use frozen spinach) in this recipe, but keep the frozen ratio high if you want thicker, creamier smoothies. If you don’t have any milk beverage on hand, you can substitute water, and increase the oats to 1/2 cup. Or, for a creamier finish, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of your favorite nut or seed butter.  And of course, you can add a serving of dairy-free protein powder, if desired.

This smoothie gets all of its sweetness from fruit, so be sure to use bananas that are quite ripe. If your fruit is quite tart, you can blend in your sweetener of choice, to taste.
