I know, you’ve heard it before. Kale is a great source of dairy-free calcium. But it’s also dense in vitamins A, C, and K, and is a good source of various other minerals that support strong bones and health in general. And this dairy-free kale fruit smoothie is a fast, easy, and tasty way to infuse this super green into your diet. It’s naturally made without top allergens, has no added sugars, and yes, unlike most kale smoothies, it’s banana-free.
Dairy-Free Kale Fruit Smoothie that’s also Banana-Free
This dairy-free kale fruit smoothie recipe was originally shared with us by Linda DeVoe as an entry in a recipe contest that we held back in 2013. We’ve since updated her recipe, and I have a few options that you might enjoy.
Tropical Kale Fruit Smoothie
Substitute the the flesh from one ripe mango for the pear. Be sure to use a type of mango with limited fibers, like Honey, Ataulfo, Keitt, or Kent. Also, use coconut milk beverage or lite canned coconut milk for the milk beverage.
Kale Fruit Protein Shake
Add about 2 tablespoons of your favorite dairy-free protein powder in plain, vanilla, or berry. Most brands will add a little sweetness, so I would add the protein powder before taste testing the smoothie for sweetness. For the best consistency, I like to use collagen, egg white protein, or pea protein powder.
Calcium-Rich Kale Smoothie
Each serving of this dairy-free kale fruit smoothie has about 85 milligrams of calcium, naturally. You can add more calcium by sprinkling in some calcium citrate powder, or you can use a calcium-rich milk beverage. See our Milk Alternative Calcium Chart to find a good option for your needs.
Kale Berry Fruit Smoothie
You can substitute 1/2 to 3/4 cup blueberries, strawberries, or blackberries for the kiwi. All three of these berries go well with pineapple and pear. If using blackberries, you might want to crush and strain the blackberries through a fine mesh strainer to remove the seeds. I don’t mind them in smoothies, but they are noticeable.
