Let’s face it, our society is on sugar overload, and dairy-free living doesn’t always help. Many of the convenience foods popping up for our little niche taste amazing, but are packed with added sugars. I’m all for moderation, and enjoying a dessert on most days, but when excessive sugars start sneaking into breakfast and snacks, we have a problem. The following are some of my top picks (honest and unbiased!) for healthy, low sugar snacks to grab on the go and pop into lunch boxes.
Favorite Low Sugar Snacks for Dairy-Free, Plant-Based Convenience
All of the following low sugar snacks are dairy-free / non-dairy, gluten-free (check for certification), peanut-free (yay for meeting peanut-safe school policies!), and naturally vegan. But always check with the manufacturer where severe allergies are a concern. Note that some of the following do contain natural sugars from fruit.
Ka-Pop Puffs
So far, these earn our top dairy-free cheesy puff award. They are light, airy, and full of delicious flavor. They come in two flavors: Cheddar with 0 grams of sugar, and spicy(!) Sriracha with 2 grams of sugar per serving.
Go Raw Sprouted Snacks
I love their Cookie Crisps, which are more like healthy wafer crackers and are naturally sweetened. They also make tons of dehydrated savory crunchies and bars. They definitely have a nutritious taste, but are hearty, and we think tasty.
Beanfield’s Bean Chips
They’ve kept it savory with their classic line of tortilla chips, but they’re far from boring. These allergy-friendly, corn-free chips come in many dairy-free cheesy flavors, including Nacho, Cheddar Sour Cream, and Spicy Queso. Each serving has less than 1 gram of sugar.
Larabars
They might not be new, but Larabars never seem to get old. They come in so many flavors, made with just fruit and nuts. Only the varieties with chocolate chips have any added sugars (from the chocolate chips). But you deserve a treat once in a while! Not sure which flavor to try first (or next!)? See our ranking of The Best Larabar Flavors.
GimME Roasted Seaweed Snacks
These deliciously seasoned, addictive slices of nori seaweed didn’t last long in our house. Tony and I easily polished them off, vying for every last piece. While I often contend that I should just make my own seasoned nori snacks, it never happens. We’ve had the Sea Salt and Sesame varieties, and both were simply scrumptious.
Made in Nature Veggie Pops
These crazy, crunchy, freeze-dried snacks are made with greens and generously seasoned with vegan cheddar, sour cream and onion, or salt and pepper flavors. They’re seriously unique, but addictive in my opinion.
Buddha Chocolate Cups
Like a full-size peanut butter cup, but much lower in sugar and with some nutritious ingredients, Buddha Cups can be a near daily snack, if desired. The ingredients are just cacao, almonds, coconut palm crystals, mesquite, vanilla bean, and Himalayan crystal salt (in that order) and each generously sized cup contains just 3 grams of sugar. My only complaint is that the almond butter filling was a bit too dry in some that I sampled, but it didn’t dampen the enjoyment factor. If you prefer more variety, Eating Evolved Chocolate Cups have just a smidgen more sugar.
Chunks of Energy
These are a bit like Larabars, but in bite-sized squares (of varying sizes!), a little chunkier, and often packed with bonus healthy ingredients. Most varieties are made without any added sugars.

I’ve become a big snacker lately since I don’t have as much time to sit down and eat full meals, so this post is really perfect! I see lots of current favorites along with new things I’d love to try. Never heard of Buddha Cups before, but I simply must hunt them down. That sounds incredible!
Oh the Buddha cups are calling me too 🙂 Next trip across the border! Our schools are nut-free so I’m glad to see you’ve got some options too!
These all sound great–wish I could get some of those here!
Gah…I want one of everything!! Would love to try those Buddha cups. I love the Navitas Power snacks and the Kit’s bars, too.
I’ll take one of each!
No seriously, this is such a great post, and perfectly timed too. I was just thinking about snack sI can keep in my office.
