Our most recent Go Dairy Free recipe contest drew in quite a few healthy dairy-free smoothie recipes thanks to the Fast & Fresh theme and ingredients like dairy-free yogurt and milk alternative from the event sponsor, So Delicious Dairy Free.
Rather than break them down into tedious posts, I thought it would be both fun and helpful to congregate the entries here (the first 5 recipes shown are 5 minute recipe contest submissions) in addition to a round-up of several other scrumptious, healthy dairy-free smoothie recipes (many from my kitchen)! These recipes sound delicious! Just a heads up, but most people who have a dairy allergy or sensitivity can’t handle bananas all that well either. I’m one of those people. But thankfully, I found a website that gives some banana alternatives which can be found below. http://food.allwomenstalk.com/astounding-substitutes-for-bananas-in-smoothies-that-are-just-as-delicious
I hope this helps with future recipes of yours!
Hi Kelly, this is an odd discovery of yours and you are the first I’ve ever heard to make this correlation. There is a cross-reactivity between latex allergy and bananas, but none that I’m aware of with milk. If you do have any studies you’ve found on this, please do link up so I can read more about it. Thank you!
My allergist said people who have a latex allergy, usually has a reaction to pineapple. Didn’t know you could get one with bananas.
That’s odd Dawnette – I’ve never read anything about latex and pineapple cross-reactivity. Here’s more information on latex allergy including prevalence of cross-reactivity with certain foods – http://www.worldallergy.org/professional/allergic_diseases_center/latexallergy/latexsynopsis.php
The reason people with dairy issues may have trouble with banana is because both cause constipation. My daughter is on a dairy free diet and her pediatrician also said to avoid bananas.
These are not dairy free recipes. Many of them contain eggs. Dairy free means no milk, butter, cheese, eggs, yogurt and any other products made with these ingredients. Dairy free products are products with wheat and soy. When you have a dairy allergy eating any of these products can be deadly. Same as eating anything with nuts.
Hi Vivian,
These are dairy-free recipes. Almost all of these recipes are egg-free (or have an option to make them vegan), but eggs are not in fact dairy. It is a common misconception. You can get a full explanation here: http://www.godairyfree.org/ask-alisa/are-eggs-dairy
“Dairy free means no eggs.” LMAO When’s the last time you saw an egg fall out of a cow?
Is there anything I can replace the coconut milk with? I don’t like the taste of coconut at all – besides it’s not sold in my town. Please help!
Your choice of milk alternative Kris!
Thanks for including me! There’s so much inspiration here, I love it!
