While we like to think that tainted food is only found in cheaply made products, the fact of the matter is, processed food is processed food, and many “natural” and organic food companies obtain some of their ingredients from the same processors as the “big guys” do. I admit, since I rarely buy processed foods, I practically ignored the recall at first. That is until I started seeing names like Nature’s Path, Simbree, Arico Foods, and Clif Bar appear on the FDA recall list. Hmmm, is that a Peanut Toffee Buzz Clif Bar in our hiking stash? Just to be safe, crosscheck your pantry with the FDA peanut recall list. Also, check any convenience-type foods you may have on hand for peanut ingredients, and contact the manufacturer to ensure they do not purchase from the Peanut Corporation before consuming.
