Alisa Fleming ~ If the popularity of Lucy’s Cookies is any indication, then there is no doubt that Dr. Lucy’s new Gluten-Free Brownie Cakes will also be a huge hit for allergy-friendly lunch boxes. We sampled a package of these individually foil-wrapped treats (or I should say, I sampled one, and Tony devoured the rest), and were pleased with the gentle semi-sweet chocolate flavor that is easily suited to both chocoholics, and kids whose taste buds aren’t yet ready for rich, dark chocolate.
I loved the thin, but slightly crusty exterior of these gluten-free brownie cakes; something that is so often missing from egg-free brownies. The inside erred on the cake-like side, with just a slightly dense texture and coarse crumb, further indicating the brownie influence. The mellow flavor had a touch of richness, but I would have liked this amped up just a bit. My only complaint was that they were a touch dry, not quite as moist and tender as I prefer both brownies and cupcakes, but that didn’t stop both of us from enjoying every last bite!
